Ph.D. student Lin Qiwen from the Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering participated in the “iRALL School 2017” International Doctoral Training Course funded by SKLGP

In October 2017, Lin Qiwen, Ph.D. student of the Faculty of Geosciences and Environmental Engineering, participated in the “iRALL School 2017” International Doctoral Training Course hosted and funded by the State Key Laboratory of Geo-hazard Prevention and Geo-environment Protection (SKLGP) of Chengdu University of Technology.

The “iRALL School 2017” International Ph.D. program (iRALL School 2017 “Field data collection, monitoring and modelling of large landslides) started on October 14, 2017. 36 doctoral students and young doctoral graduates from 12 countries and regions were invited to participate in it. In this program, many well-known professors at home and abroad, such as Prof. Huang Runqiu (vice minister of environmental protection ministry), Prof. Xu Qiang from Chengdu University of Technology, Prof. Fan Xuanmei, Hu Wei, Niek Rengers (former chairman of the International Association for Engineering Geology and Environment), Prof. Mauri McSaveney of the New Zealand Geological Survey, Prof. Stephen Evans of the University of Waterloo, Canada, Prof. D. V. Griffith of the University of Colorado, Dr. Wang Gonghui from the Disaster Prevention Institute of Kyoto University, Japan, and Prof. Cees Van Westen of the ITC of the Netherlands, gave wonderful lectures. The lectures are related to engineering geology, geotechnical engineering, geological disaster prevention and other disciplines. During these lectures, classification, discovery and identification, monitoring and early warning, risk assessment and control protection of large-scale landslides, as well as their latest research progresses, were given in detail by combing a large number of data and charts.

The course lasted fifteen days. The first four days were at Chengdu University of Technology, and the rest days were at the Beichuan Missionary Center field practice base. Through a combination of theoretical knowledge and field investigations, this course provided students a good learning opportunity.
